Bentek Energy reported on Wednesday that exports to Mexico reached an all-time high on Tuesday from the Southwest corridor. Exports totaled 692 MMcf per day, 6 MMcf per day higher than the previous high mark set in July of 2014.

The number and timing of the record exports is significant according to Bentek because all previous highs but two were set in the month of July when power demand typically approaches peak levels.

Since June 6, exports have averaged 663 MMcf per day, which is 84 MMcf per day higher than the previous seven day average.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that it expects total natural gas consumption to average 76.7 Bcf per day in 2015 with consumption growth primarily occurring in the industrial and electric power sectors. However, increases in exports to Mexico will also contribute to this increase in total consumption.
